   I want to know whether the condition of the zoo has changed or not because last time I visited in Sep’10 the condition of it is HORRIBLE. I am thinking of visiting it again in January so please send me the update.

   Feedback

   Please note that I am an Ornithologist and Photographer and I had the pleasure to visit the zoo on 19th December,2010 and again on 05th January 2011.

   In as much as our zoo is one of the oldest in Asia, naturally the environment and presentations are not suitable at par to other zoological gardens of our country. It is quite natural.

   But the purpose of writing you is to draw your attention toward some mistakes that has creped in your display board of the name of exhibits.

   1. In place of the ‘Land Iguana from America’ would be ..” Green land Iguana of St. Thomas Island [Iguana iguana]

   2. In place of Go-Away-Bird……… The correct ID would be “ Grey Plantain-Eater” or “ Western Plantain-Eater, Family: Turaco. Scientific Name: Crinifer piscator.

   Though it belongs to same family of Turaco, but all species of the Go-Away-Birds have conspicuous Long Crest. On the other hand Plantain-Eater is conspicuous for its yellow bill and silvery blue feather on the shoulder together with brown. [ You can verify all identities from Wikipedia]

   I feel it a concern to get it corrected with immediate effect as there are large numbers of young visitors in your zoo and it is not desirable that they should learn anything wrong. I hope you will agree with me.
